Procedure Questions
CustomEyes is based on total (corneal) wavefront technology which has been used and improved over the years to ensure best outcomes with utmost safety for patients. CustomEyes is performed using EU MDR certified AMARIS laser, which is manufactured by a market leader in ophthalmic medical care, SCHWIND technologies from Germany. Overall, the surgery is safe and effective, however since it is a medical procedure there is always a minor risk of over or under correction or cases of dry eyes, but all of these are manageable.
Although in general, you might hear that LASIK or refractive surgeries are painful. You should know that in CustomEyes, there are no blades used and therefore it is not painful like other older techniques. While it is natural for patients to suffer anxiety or nervousness before or during the procedure, in reality CustomEyes is quick and least invasive method which would be performed under local anesthesia. The entire procedure gets over in less than few minutes and often patients are surprised by how comfortable and painless the whole experience is.
Depending on the on-boarding process, the time might differ between clinics. However in general, it is observed that the surgical part of the procedure only lasts less than 10 minutes for both eyes.
As tools like blade, needles or forceps are not used during CustomEyes, it is believed to be less invasive.
Post Procedure Care
With CustomEyes, it has been observed that most patients recover within a few days. In rare cases, it might take a week or so but this depends on the eye conditions. However, in spite of early healing, it is recommended that the patients follow the post operative care instructions for as long as prescribed by surgeons. To ensure optimal healing and avoid complications like dry eyes, it is recommended that patients do a follow-up visit to surgeon.
It is not recommended for the patients to drive right after surgery, it is advisable that you come with a friend or a relative for the surgery so that they can drive you back home.
It is advisable that patients avoid going out to sun and dust for at least a couple of days after surgery. Normally it is also recommended that the patients do not take head shower and avoid swimming for few days. Doing routine work like sitting in front of computer can be started early but we recommend to consult your surgeon to know the best time for you to start all these activities.
Dry eyes is common after any laser based refractive surgery. Depending on your eye and the time of intervention, e.g. already before surgery, the level of severity differs. For some people, it might last longer than others. But for this, the surgeons prescribe you eye drops which you must apply as prescribed. In general, most of the patients have to take this only for couple of weeks and then there is no risk of dry eyes.
There is no way one can turn blind after CustomEyes. The safety record for CustomEyes is quite high and there have been some complications in few cases here and there but blindness is definitely not one of them. Since CustomEyes is only correcting the cornea, and because it is a bespoke treatment, the chances of complications are comparatively less.
Technology Questions
Using SCHWIND devices like MS-39. PERAMIS or SIRIUS (+), we map up to 150,000 points on the cornea for detailed diagnostics. This high-resolution data identifies eye irregularities, forming the foundation for a personalized treatment plan tailored to your unique vision needs.
Making a decision of this scale is not easy one. Our technology ensures that you approach this procedure with all the information that is precise, trustworthy, clinically tested and validated.
Like any other medical procedure, CustomEyes does not promise 100% guarantee. There are cases where the patients require re-treatment of any kind for improved uncorrected vision instead of wearing glasses after few years again. This depends on hormonal changes and some other factors, but overall, the percentage of regression with CustomEyes is quite low and even for those cases, re-correction is possible.
CustomEyes is performed using SCHWIND AMARIS laser. The laser is a high speed laser that has 7D eye tracking and therefore ensures precise and safe laser application treatment. With minimal tissue removal, enhanced recovery and maintenance of corneal stability, the treatment ensures optimal visual outcomes.
Difference between LASIK & CustomEyes?
The detailed diagnostic before procedure involves mapping of upto 150,000 data points on the cornea and these data points help surgeon to create a customized treatment profile by identifying aberrations and optimizing the plan for minimal tissue removal and high visual acuity. This tailored approach distinguishes CustomEyes from conventional (LASIK) procedures by other laser companies which are more general in nature and not truly customized.
In terms of safety and comfort, both procedures are equally good. But since CustomEyes is a very personalized treatment and does not follow “one for all” approach, the effectiveness and outcomes can be better.
CustomEyes is an advanced procedure which is the outcome of years of improvement to existing procedures. Therefore, it is not new but comes with some new and unique benefits as compared to conventional procedures.
CustomEyes is performed using SCHWIND AMARIS laser and this has EU MDR certification. Many surgeons across the world perform CustomEyes using SCHWIND AMARIS lasers and are extremely satisfied with the results.
